HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A committee meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held last evening. Present: Mr. B. Christie (president), Mesdames Barr, Moore, Murphy, McMurray, Healey, and P. Easton, Misses J. Ross and Speirs, Revs. Walton and Peryman. Messrs Jas. Ross and Murphy. Apologies were received from Messrs. Poole, Tyer and Symons. The secretary of the band wrote regretting that through want of practice and the music having gone astray the band were not able to supply music for the Show, but hoped to be able to do so at future shows. The balance-sheet of the Show was as follows:—Receipts £25/9-, expenditure, £27 2/9, leaving a debit of £1 3/9. The president pointed out that the balance-sheet did not allow for members’ tickets, and it was quite usual to have a debit balance on the Spring Show. It would be more than mane up at the other shows. It was agreed that some form of entertainment was necessary at the shows.
Prize money and sundry accounts amounting to £3l 0/9 were passed for payment. Mr. A. J. Shailer offered a dozen roses as a points prize for the next show and Mr A. Gibson two prizes valued at 10/fi and 5/- for a novice class for nine varieties of narcissi,
any division. Rev. Walton moved that a committee be set up to go through the Society’s stock and take an inventory, and also destroy useless material. It was also suggested that people holding trestles or other material belonging to the Society be asked to return same. The date of the Summer show was held over till next meeting.
