RAILWAY TO FOXTON BEACH
At a meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce held last Thursday, the matter of approaching the Railway Department to lay down a light line to the beach was brought up. It was pointed out that Mi-. Wilson, of the commercial brunch of the Railway Department, had recently inspected this seaside resort, and was enthusiastic about its possibilities, so much so that he has recommended lhe running of Sunday trains to Foxton.
It was further pointed out that owing to the cost of land and the high rents for houses in Foxton, many people would take up sections and lmild at the beach, if the line rah to the beach and the service given allowed business men to travel to and fro conveniently.
Another suggestion was that school picnics which now go to Plimmcrtim and other places would tie cut down and the expense considerablv less.
After discussion it was decided to write, the Minister of Railways asking his consideration of the proposal and also to request the Harbour Board to co-operate. In the meantime it was decided to approach several firms with the idea of having a suitable conveyance to take people to and from the trains at a reasonable charge.
