NEW RAILWAY SYSTEM

CASH ON DELIVERY. The institution of the cash-on-delivery system in the Railway Department mentioned by Mr F. J. Kolieston (Timani) received the attention of the Minister, who stated in reply: “The commercial branch of (he Railway Department lias had this matter in hand for some time, and has been occupied in collecting information in regard therto from Queensland, West Australia, Japan and other places where the system is in operation. The inquiries which have been made indicate that the system constitutes a real service, which the railways are able to afford their customers, and that it is generally appreciated. The necessary arrangements for bringing the system into operation in New Zealand are now in hand.”
