BOWLING.

ANNUAL AIEETING OF SHANNON CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Shannon Bowling Club there was a fair attendance, the president (Air W. Clayton) presiding. The bal-ance-sheet, which was read and adopted, showed that the club commenced the year with a debit balance of £33 17s 7d. Subscriptions, donations and nelt receipts from art union totalled £1,35 18s 2d, and the expenditure was £157 (is, leaving a debit balance of £5 5s sd.

The president, in his report, stated that it was very gratifying to wind up the season with such a small debit balance, considering that extra money lmd been spent on the green, new implements bought, and improvements carried out to the fences and ladies’ pavilion. 3 lie club Sent two links to the Dominion tournament, which had not happened before, two rinks to the Manawatu centre’s tournament, two rinks to Wanganui, and one to Nelson tournament. The club was not successful in winning the shield, but nevertheless put up some good games. This was the first year they had had the croquet players with them, and it was pleasing to note the progress that the club had made. All the croquet material had been paid for and thanks were due to Air J. AT Burns for his assistance in this matter. The Croquet Club had also paid to have its lawn extended IS feet. Difficulty had been found in past years in finishing the singles, pairs and rink games owing to the difficulty of members observing different week day holidays. The installing of electric light should help them in this matter, enabling them to complete the games in

the evening. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Air J. T. Bo vis; vice-Pre-sident. Air A. T. Whyte: secretary ami treasurer, Air J. V. Burns; committee, Alessrs. Gunning, E. Spencer, B. Spencer, Alorgan, Capes, Clayton, Watterson and E. Butt; auditor: Air. C. Cronquest; . refreshment committee, Alisses Clayton, Watterson and McLaughlan; selection committee, Messrs. E. Spencer, Clayton and E. Butt; given committee, Alessrs. E. Butt, E. Spencer, and Gunning; delegate to centre, Air. E. Spencer; finance committee, Alessrs Whibley and Brown. The matter of installing electric light on the greens was left to Alessrs. Silencer, Capes and Gunning to report at next meeting. Air Burns gave notice of motion as follows: —“That the club be incorporated.” Notice of motion as follows was given by Air Gunning: “That in view of the heavy expenditure of flie club the subscriptions be raised to £3.” A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president (Air Clayton), the secretary (Air Cronquest) and members of the various committees for their past services.
