BOWLING CLUBS FINED.

SALE OF LIQUOR WITHOUT A LICENSE. Napier, Last Night. As a sequel to a police raid on Napier and Hastings Bowling Clubs at Easter, Edward Beeeham (Napier Club), Joint Pearce Smith (Port Club) and P. Maurice Cohr (St. Leonard’s Club) appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day to answer charges of selling liquor without licenses.

Mr Perry (Wellington) defended. Evidence showed that the Napier t'tub lmd purchased seventy gallons of whisky and 415 gallons of beer in about six months. In this club, constables tendered money and received change. In the. others, they were invited to put contributions in a box.

The Magistrate held that there had been an unlicensed sale in each ease, and tines of £lO were imposed and the liquor forfeited.
