SOCCER.

FOXTON v. ST. ANDREW'S,

(By “Penalty.”)

The Foxton eleven travelled to Palmerston on Saturday last, and were successful in bringing hack with them two well-merited points. Playing conditions left nothing to be desired, and the game up to the final whistle was exceedingly f-ast. St. Andrews kicked off to initiate a rush on the Foxton gbal, but Ship, the visiting custodian, was in great form, and saved in his usual brilliant style, but Perigo came close iu and notched St. Andrews’ only point. St. Andrews 1, Foxton nil. Stung bv this rapid goal, Foxton made repeated efforts, but these were spoiled by being offside. The visiting centre-forward, Travers, had great misfortune at this juncture, he hitting the crossbar with a stinging shot. St. Andrews had no intention of losing their lead if they could possibly avoid it, and played with a. will. The play for the remainder of the spell was evenly divided neither side being able to gain any further advantage, and the spell ended: St. Andrews 1, Foxton nil. Upon kicking off again, Foxton showed their merits, aud it was not long until Travers Scored a chance goal, equalising the points. Midfield play ensued, the ball travelling up and down the Held with great rapidity, Ship saving iu spectacular style. The Foxtou defense proved superior, and gaining possession, Travers manipulated the ball into such a position as to score the last goal of the game in Foxtou’s favour. St. Andrews mads repeated attempts to equalise, but could not succeed, and the game ended with Foxton the victors by the odd goal in three.

Mr 11. Crouch controlled the whistle in a very capable manner. It is difficult to specialise one player as having played a goor game, the whole team playing exceptionally well. There is no doubt i hat if the team maintains this standard of play, many teams in Manawatu will have cause to respect even more than ever the familiar blue-aud-wkite.
