RUGBY AMALGAMATION.
DELEGATES MEET, BUT NOTHING FOR PUBLICATION. Four representatives each of the Manawatu and Ilorowhenua Rugby Football Unions met in Palmerston North on Wednesday night (says the “Times”!, to consider a proposal of the former Union for amalgamation for the playin of representative games with other unions. The matter was discussed by Maim watu’s executive on Tuesday week, and members expressed varying ideas on the subject, of amalgamation generally. However, a subeoinmjittee was set up to report to the Union on Tuesday last and its counter-proposals "were discussed “in committee” prior to the conference with Ilorowhenua s four delegates last night. This also was not. open to the press but it would appear some reasonable progress was made towards the amalgamation of the two unions rather than of their representative teams only. Otherwise, no doubt, a copy of Manawatu’s proposals would have been handed to the Press for publication. It. may be taken for granted, therefore, that both delegations will return to their respective executives with an outline of a workable amalgamation scheme. Ilorowhenua’s quartette consisted of Messrs W. Moynihan (who “started the ball rolling” at the annual general meeting on Monday fortnight), J. Rimmer, Roy Robertsliaw and L. S. Carmichael (hon. secretary). Manawatu had present Messrs .A. Haimay, A. S. Faire, K. Elington and C. W. White. Mr. J. B. Proud was also in attendance as minute secretary.
