STONES OF REMEMBRANCE ON GALLIPOLI.

Auckland, March 10. Mr E. T. Marr, architect, formerly of Auckland, who has been four years on Gallipoli, in charge of the construction of war memorials, returned on the Remuera. He says the Holies monument is most imposing and is visible to every ship traversing the Dardanelles. The shaft is inscribed with the names of all the units participating in the campaign. Space is reserved for the names of twenty thousand missing.

The New Zealanders’ monument at Chanuk Bar is no less inspiring. There are twenty-eight cemeteries on the peninsular, the graves being surrounded bv a grassed •embankment faced with stone. Each cemetery Ims a monument in the shape of' a mural cross, the size being regulated by the number of graves in the plot. In the larger cemeteries a great ,Stone of Remembrance is set in front of the monuments.
