ISSUER OF VALUELESS CHEQUES.

Gisborne, March 11. Alfred Joseph Vance Ryan, with several aliases, was charged at the police court with issuing valueless cheques at Upper Hutt and i’rankton, and pleaded guilty. The police stated that accused went into a Catholic priest at Upper Hutt and represented that he was the son of a well-known Auckland citizen and asked the priest to assist him to cash a cheque. Accused had been sentenced in the Supreme Court yesterday to two years’ imprisonment, on two similar charges. The Magistrate imposed a concurrent sentence of one month.
