HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. 'flip monthly meeting of the TTorowlienua Power Board was held in Levin on Tuesday, the eliairinaii (Mr G. A. Monk) presiding. Also present: Messrs Brown, Boss, Kilsbv, Macka.v, Seifert, Maihcsmi and W. E. Barber. Leave of absence was granted Mr Gunning. A letter was read from the Poston Harbour Board, asking that three street lamps lie erected at M.anawatu Heads seaside township. They pointd out that these lamps would only be used for six months per year, and asked for a special quotation in consideration of this fact. The Manawatu County Council wrote that they were willing lo bear the cost of one street light at the entrance to the Manawatu Beach township. The Engineer stated that the lights asked for had been supplied, the rate being £3 17/(5 per year for 100 watt lamps. The chairman said that the question involved in the Harbour Board’s letter was whether a special rate could he given. Personally he did not see that, this could he done, taking into consideration the fact of the small number of lights and also that the price charged was really low. It was decided to reply to this effect. METER READER. The Committee recommended that (]i(; secretary take steps to secure the services of a suitable experienced meter-reader and collector at a salary of £5 per week, the Board to find suitable transport. The chairman stated that the matter had been carefully gone into and that the services of a suitable man, who was favourably known to the Engineer, could be obtained. GENERAL. Air Barber asked what was the mode of procedure if anybody at the Foxton Heads Beach required to lie joined up with the existing group. The Engineer stated that all that would be necessary would he to approach the Board making application to he connected up. As soon as permission was granted, the householder might make arrangements with any contractor to have the wiring done.
