MOTOR REGULATIONS.
DRIVERS WAIT ON MINISTER. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation from the Master Carriers' Federation interviewed Mr Coates regarding the draft motor regulations. In interrupting one speaker, Air Coates said the Act was not designed to affect the Railways hut to relieve the burden on the sertiers. The speaker criticised the draft regulation in several details, urging that fees under the present ciussiiieation were unfair to lorry owners, were excessive and in many cases prohibitive. He expressed alarm at the prospect of local bodies living their own fees. There should be licenses covering each' Island. Mr Coates suggested that repusentatives of the Federation should confer with officers of the Department. It was never intended that County Councils should have separate systems of by-laws and fees, or ilia I City Councils shouu! have separate licensing authority’. I'he Act showed it was intended to design large mens. The Department wanted them to be as large as possible. a coiif uoiice proposal was agreed to.
