BURNING FATALITY.

SPIRIT LAMP EXPLODES. When replenishing a spirit-lamp yesterday morning Mrs Arthur Allan, of 101 Alexandra St., Palmerston N. poured spirit into the lamp befoxre it had been properly extinguished, with the result that there was an explosion. Her clothes caught lire, and within a few seconds she was a mass of ffames. Mrs Carter, a visitor staying with Mrs Allan, heard her screams and endeavoured to extinguish the flames, but not before Mrs Allan was severely burned. Medicgj aid was called to attend to Airs Allan and her condition was found to be so serious that she was immediately removed to the public hospital, where she sucourn- ■ >ed to her injuries shortly after . o’clock last night.
