INFANTILE PARALYSIS.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT'S RECOMMENDATIONS. CHILDREN EXCLUDED FROM PLACES OF ASSEMBLY. A mandate prohibiting the attendance of children under sixteen years of age at places of entertainment, schools, and other places of assembly, has been issued by the Health Department, with the powers provided under the Health Act, “In view of the continued prevalence of infantile paralysis, and the fact that the Health Department’s repeated publication of appeals and warnings to parents and guardians to do their best to keep children from assembling in crowds or travelling in public conveyances has not met with adequate response, as shown, for example, by the fact that a recent survey of attendances at Wellington picture theatres proved that ten per cent, of those still in ordinary attendance, apart from matinees, are children,” states the Department’s letter, issued yesterday. “It has been decided, under 6 of the Health Act, to forbid the admission of children under sixteen years of age to the following places, namely:— “Theatres (including moving picture shows and music halls). “Schools (including Sunday Schools). “Recreation and sports grounds, racecourses, and all other places of public assembly (including public picnics). “Owing to cases having occurred in the towns of Wanganui, Napier, and Palmerston N., it has been decided that this order shall extend throughout the Wellington health district, to include Patea county in flic north-west and Hawke’s Bay county in the north-east, and be bounded by Cook Strait in the South.

“This order is to take effect forth with and ufitil further notice. — (Signed) J. N. A. Valentine, Direc-tor-General of Health.” SECOND DEATH AT MASTERTON AND TWO FRESH CASES Masterton, Last Night. The position in regard to the infantile paralysis epidemic was slightly worse to-day. A second death, that of a young hoy, occurred to-night, while two fresh cases were reported. WAIPUKURAU SHOW POSTPONED. Napier, Last Night. On account of the Health Department’s order prohibiting the attendance of children at public gatherings, the Waipukurau Show has been postponed indefinitely. CASES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. New Plymouth, La>t Night. A child under three years was admitted to the local hospital from Lincoln Road, near Inglewood, suffering from infantile paralysis.
