SHANNON BRIDGE.

CHAMBER. OF CO MAIERCE URGES ERECTION OF SPAN. At Hast night’s meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce, Mr J. K. Hornblow asked that the Chamber assist the Moutoa settlers in connection with their efforts to have a span of the bridge, washed away by the recent flood, re-erected; He said that great inconvenience and loss was being sustained by the Afo- " utoa settlers owing to .communication with Shannon being cut off. The punt proposed to be used was not looked upon with favour, and, further, it would cause delay in making the necessary repairs to tlie bridge.. Several members referred to the unnecessary expense of a punt- when the money so used would have been sufficient to have restored the span. The following motion, moved by All’ J. K. Hornblow, and seconded by the president, was carried unanimously: “That this Chamber communicate with the Highways Board and the Horowhenua County _, Council, pointing out the urgency of re-erecting the span washed away from the Shannon bridge during the recent floods.”
