ACCESS TO RICH DAIRYING LAND.
SETTLER’S GENEROUS OFFER. £IOOO TOWARDS ERECTION OF BRIDGE. . At last night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the secretary (Air R. MeAlurray) reported that 'he had interviewed Air Wm. Ross as requested at last meeting, hi connection with the formation of a road leading from his property at the Poplar Mill, Aloutoa, and which would connect with the proposed road through the Alakerua property to come out at Rangitane. Air AlcAlurray said that Mr Ross had sta;t< u his willingness to contribute £I,OOO. towards the erection of a bridge, giving access to this new out let from Moutoa and would give the land required for a road v through his property free of cost under certain conditions. Air AlcAlurray said apart from the importance of opening up this land for settlement and easy access, the road would shorten the distance between Foxton and Palmerston N. by four miles. Alembers spoke appreciatively of Air Ross’ offer and a general discus- • sion took place as to the bes't course to pursue to further assist in consummating this important matter. It was pointed out that the Makerua estate was being cut up and loaded but came to a dead end at the Poplar property and access cut off from Aloutoa. The land concerned was within the Horowhenua and Kalrartga counties. It was resolved to convey the thanks of the Chamber to Mr Wm. Ross for his generous offer and to submit same in writing so that the Chamber could place the matter before the local authorities concerned and Air Akers.
