FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The Foxton Harbour Board met at Palmerston N. yesterday when there were present: Messrs J..Linkla ter, M.P. (chairman), J. Chrystall T. J. Clajtham, E. R. B. Holben, J. A. Nash, M.P., and the secretary (Mr R. Rangiheuea). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Barber, Signal and Rimmer. DREDGEMASTER’S REPORT. The dredgemaster (Mr A. E. Lockwood), reported that repairs had been effected to the dredge and asked that hi.s wages be increased. —The request was granted. The chairman’s action in authorising dredging to commence for a fortnight as from the Bth inst. was endorsed. STEAMER AND SAND B;\JSTK. It was reported that the steamer Kennedy had grounded in the vicinity of the dredge, when entering the port on Sunday morning last, and was still stranded yesterday morning. Mr Holben expressed a clesire for an enquiry into the circumstances which attended the frequent stranding of this vessel and said the channel in the river had changed for the point at which the Kennedy had grounded was the scene of recent dredging operations. The Board decided on the motion of Mr Holben, that the board effect at) enquiry as soon as a boat is stranded and to request the pilot to furnish the Board with the sound,ings in and about the vicinity where the stranding took place. GENERAL. Messrs Boniface Bros, were granted the lease of section 60 at the assessed rates. Messrs Nathan and Co. asked for port charges on powder.—Resolved to instruct the secretary to furnish current charges and to point out that the Board would be assuming complete control at no distant date when port charges would undergo a revision. Resolved to request the architect to furnish the office with the. contract, plans and specifications of the new goods shed at the eai’liest possible moment. The secretary was instructed to furnish a detailed report to the next meeting concerning the Rfmrcli Road loan. The chairman and Mr Holben’s action in accepting the amended tender of Messrs Higgins and Arcus Bros, re goods shed was endorsed. - Mr Holben reported that several lessees of properties adjacent to the Ifl Saints’ Children’s Home had surrendered their leases to allow I lie extension of the Home property. Upon his suggestion the authorities All Saints’ Home were granted a *2l years’ lease of the land with the perpetual right of renewal —subject to the approval of the board’s solicitor.

The chairman’s action in accepting Mr Dalrymple’s offer of 15 acres iv. full settlement of his obligation foi re-defining the boundary line between the Board’s endowment and his land a w*as endorsed. It was alsg resolved to con-' vey a vote of thanks to Mr Dairy tuple and lo pay the whole cost of the survey. The chairman’s action was endorsed re instructing Messrs H. W. Climic and Son to effect a survey of 50 new sections on the accretion land to the north of the bathing shed. Accounts amounting to £57 15/1 were passed for payment. Five leases, one mortgage and one transfer were agreed to.
