FARMERS’ FATAL QUARREL.
DRINKS AND BLOWS. ASSAILANT PLEADS SELFDEFENCE. Gore, December 2. A meeting near Gore, between two farmers, neighbours in the Femdale district, last night had fatal consequences, Donald Cameron losing his life in the fracas which developed. John Juror met Cameron, who, he states, was the worse for liquor and the two had a few drinks. A dispute developed over the question of coming to Gore. Juror, in a statement to the police, saying that Cameron issued a threat that he would thrash Juror for not obeying him. Blows were exchanged and Juror, in selfdefence, struck Camerjm pretty hard twice, Cameron falling on the road. Cameron again fell on the metalled road and did not rise. The assistance of travellers was obtained and a doctor called, but life was extinct.' Juror says that Cameron and he were the best of friends, and that he hit Cameron only in self-defence. An inquest will be held to-morrow. Deceased was a married man about 40 years of age.
