HERBALIST AND PATIENT.

CLAIM FOR £2,250. MEDICAL EVIDENCE. Auckland, Thursday. The defence opened this afternoon in the case wherein Agnes Wright Stewart is claiming £2,250 damages from Abram Salaman. Counsel for Salaman said the plaintiff had passed from doctor to doctor, until Anally she came into the hands of defendant and apparently defendant was to be blamed for not succeeding. Several witnesses gave evidence in support of the defendant’s treatment in various cases. One witness said the plaintiff’s condiiton improved under Salaman’s treatment. She was much worse when she first saw Salaman than she appeared when brought into court. In giving evidence earlier in the case, Dr. Abbott said the drags prescribed by the defendant were useless in a case like Miss Stewart’s. Two at least of the drags would be harmful, and the administration of a medicine containing even half a grain of opium over a period of months would induce the opium habit and become very deleterious to a patient suffering from ex-opthal-mic goitre. £6OO DAMAGES AWARDED. Auckland, Last Night. In the above claim, the jury av.arded plaintiff £6OO, judgment being entered for that amount and costs. The jury retired at 12.15 p.m. and returned about three hours later.
