A GRUESOME DISCOVERY.
CHILD’S BODY ON OTAKI BEACH. An net of mere curiosity led to the gruesome discovery of the dead l,od v of a newly-born male child on 1 1m Otaki beach on Friday morning. A young man, Mr Mervyn Webby, was riding along the sand when bis horse shied and curiosity prompted the rider to return and ascertain the cause of the animal’s fright. Pie then found the nude body of the ehihi, face upwards in the sand. Tim police wire communicated with and subsequently an inquest was opened at Otaki, before Air A. Fraser, coiollel', oi I'oXtull. E\ id'oucc of identification was given and the inquest was adjourned. The Otaki Mail reports that Constable Satherley interviewed a young woman, who had been winking at "he beach, and the woman, who comes from Tokomarn, and who gave her age as 23 years, stated that she had been working at the beach for the past two weeks, further that the father was a taxi driver residing at Palmerston X. The ha by, she added, was horn at 3 a.m. that morning. No one was with her and she later took the child m a blanket to the beach and placed if on the water's edge, afterwards re moving the blanket. Dr. Sharp was communicated with and ath'r eiii" the girl, ordered her removal to the hospital. An inquest is being held at Otaki.
