MANGAHAO OPENING CEREMONY.
MONDAY NEXT. POWER FOR HOROWHENUA NEXT WEEK. The official opening of the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme has been fixed for Monday next. The Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works will be present and there will be a general gathering of members of Parliament and other citizens. During the visit the power for Horowhenua district will be turned on. The Parliamentary Party will leave the city by the New Plymouth express on Monday morning, and will disembark at Shannon and motor to the works. After a brief inspection of what is to be seen there the party will go back to Shannon, where a banquet will be held. The Parliamentarians will return to Wellington in time for the silting of the House in the evening. The following is the programme drawn up for the function. The Ministerial party and members of Parliament will arive by the New Plymouth express at 10 a.m. and will be welcomed by the Mayor and citizens at the railway station. They will then proceed to the School headed by the Levin Band, where the children will be lined up and will be addressed by the Premier for five minutes; at the conclusion of which the party will proceed to the power house tl Mangaore, where the official ceremony of turning on of the power will be performed by the Prime Minister. While the party are at Mangaore the school children will be treated to lunch at the school during which the Levin Band will render items. At the conclusion of the ceremony at Mangaore the party will return to the Druids’ Hall where a banquet, will be held at 1.30 p.m. at which speeches will be made by the Premier (Mr Massey), Minister of Public Works (Mr Coates), members of Parliament and repre sentives of local bodies and Others. We received telephonic communication this morning to the effect that a special train will convey the Ministerial and Parliamentary Party to Shannon, arriving at 10 a.m. The party will proceed to Mangaore where the opening ceremony will take place, at noon. The banquet will be held at 1.30 p.m. at Shannon and the special train will return in order to reach Wellington in time to resume the business of Parliament in the evening.
