CROQUET.

Yesterday afternoon, simultaneously with the commencement of play on the bowling’ green, and just subsequent to the presentation of trophies to last year’s winners, by Mr J. M. Barr, Mr Perreau, on behalf of Mrs Perreau, who is president of the Croquet Club again this .season, declared the court open for play. Jn doing so, Mr Pferreau welcomed all visitors on behalf of the Chib and wished all an enjoyable afternoon, and hoped the Club would have a successful season. Mrs Perreau was called upon to hit the lirst ball, and the green was then declared open for play. Competitions were played during the afternoon, the results being as follows: — Golf croquet: Mrs Brown (Levin). Break competition: Mrs Pavkes. French croquet: Mrs Pink (Levin). The trophies won last season and presented by Mr Barr were as follows : A grade handicap singles (club’s trophy) Mrs Perreau; second (Mrs .Christie’s trophy) Mrs Owen. Most points A grade handicap singles: (.Mrs Healey’s trophy) Mrs Ball. B. grade handicap singles (Mrs Owen’s trophy) Mrs R. Moore. The dance organised by the Committee of the Croquet Club was held in the Alasonie Hall last night, and proved a successful and enjoyable culmination of' the day’s sport. The attendance was quite satisfactory-. the floor being - comfortably lilted with dancers, and a table was occupied bs card-players. Excellent music was gratuitously supplied tuy ATrs Pearson, and as an extra a one step was played by Afiss < (wen. A vocal duet was rendered by the. Alisses Morgan and was much appreciated. Under the direction of Air AT. F.. Perreau, 'as ALC.. the function continued merrily until about midnight, 'flic* ladies of the Croquet Club provided a tasty and abundant supper, which was fully enjoyed.
