THE MARTIN CASE.
EXQ FJR Y ADJOURNED. Auckland, October 6. The open enquiry which is to be held by the Grammar Schools Board into the case of Miss Margaret Marlin, has been adjourned until Friday. 'The inquiry is the outcome of a complaint that the girl’s form mistress, Miss Terry, influenced the icligious views of Miss Martin. At its meeting the Board granted Miss 'firry two months’ leave for health reasons, and she left for Te Aroha cn Saturday, notice of the inquiry being handed to her father later in the day.
Miss Terry’s counsel said that she was ill and could not bear the strain of an inquiry in the immediate future, but lie accepted the Board’s decision as to date, reserving the right to ask for a further adjournment if he had not the necessary witnesses present to meet the charges. He emphasised that Miss Terry had not been informed of the nature of the charges to be brought against her, and protested that the time was too short.
The chairman replied that in the opinion of the Board Miss Terry had known the nature of the charges so long that there could be no injuslice in fixing the inquiry for Friday. Margaret Martin was not present but Mrs Martin was present, with her counsel, as was also Miss Terry’s father.
