FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
OPENING OF SUMMER SPORTS. A. very pleasant gathering of parents and scholars was held at the local State school yesterday afternoon on the occasion of the opening of the tennis and cricket, season. Afternoon tea was dispensed on the school lawn by the ladies of the staff, assisted by the school children. Games of tennis, cricket and rounders were indulged in by teams selected, and every one had a most enjoyable time. Meetings of this nature are of gieat help to the teachers, scholars, and the school, and it is hoped that other such ones will he held on future occasions.
The headmaster (Air Mason) in an opening speech, welcomed parents to the school. He stressed the importance of school games in the training of the young, and urged on parents the necessity of eo-opera-tjon. He also said that, while the Education authorities expected games' to he organised and earned out, they made no provision in the way of obtaining material for these sports. Tie asked those who were willing, to send along money or oilier donations. Already assistance had been received both in money and material, hut it would probably take some £3O to supply fully the requirement he hope.l other donations would be forthcoming. Members of his committee also spoke and pointed out the benefit of (bis side of education.
