CADET SPORTS.
On Friday afternoon the local Senior Cadets, who for the past week, have been undergoing a course of military training at the racecourse, held a sports afternoon, the following are the results: — Mule Race. —Williams 1, Newth 2, Coley 3. Hop, Step and Jump,—Carter 1, 11. Hull 2, G. Coley 3. 100 Yards Carter 1, Williams 2, Proctor 3. Standing Jump.—C. Huff 1, Carter 2, Williams 3. High Jump.—Williams and Carter tie, Proctor 3. These results, taken into consideration with the musketry totals, determined the distribution of prizes. On behalf of the authorities, opportunity was taken to thank Mr J, K. Horn blow for donating the prizes which had the effect of stimulating competition and keenness, i’he most successful eadeLs were Curler, Williams and. H. Huff. During the week some excellent results were obtained on the range. A itii a possible of 120, Staff secured 101. The company average was iS, a performance which rellects great credit upon the instruction of Staff Sergeant-Major Thomson. The emrainees were inspected during the course of their training by Colonel Powell and Captain Mead, of the N.Z. Staff' Corp 3. The former brieliy explained to the lads the principles of their training, and indicated the results it was hoped to achieve. The training carried on locally is part of a. comprehensive scheme in which recreational and military' motives are splendidly combined. The cadets enjoyed their week and look forward to further work in the cadets anil territorial forces.
