BOWLING.

OPENING DAYS. Takaro Club. Sat. Sept 27th. Shannon' Club, Wed., Oct. Ist. Northern Club, Wed., Oct. Ist. Manawatu Club Sat., Oct. 4th. Levin Cliff) Wed., Oct. Bth. The secretary of the local club has received intimation from Northern Bowling Club, Palmerston N., to the effect that one rink from that club will be present at the official opening .of Foxton green on October 15th.

Takaro Club will he pleased to accommodate one rink from Foxton on the 27fh inst. (Saturday). The local secretary requests members willing to make flic trip to communicate with him forthwith.

The knotty and evergreen problem of providing the Croquet Club with further playing space was the purpose of a combined meeting of members of the Croquet Club and Bowling Club committee yesterday afternoon. The President (Mr Barr) in opening the meeting, stressed the fact that finances were not sufficiently good to allow of the Club going to further expense in the matter of providing further courts unless the ladies could formulate concrete proposals for obtaining the necessary money to cover (he cost of laying out the grounds. The Indies in turn, expressed the view that 1 1 0 bowlers should provide the means of meeting the cost. The secretary stated clearly the position of the Club, and pointed out that this year the Club was committed to heavy expenditure for necessary works and that it would be necessary for this reason alone to make .-nine special effort to supplement the ordinary receipts. Subsequently, on the motion of Mr A. X. Smith it was decided that the President, Secretary and the mover go into the question of the purchase of part of (lie adjoining section, full details to tic communicated to the ladies, after which a further combined meeting- will he held.
