PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL AIEETING. ‘
The annual congregational meeting of the Presbyterian Church was held lust Wednesday evening. There was a fair attedance presided over bv the Rev. F. McDonald, Moderator. The Session Report showed that the year had been marked by intense spiritual activity, especially in Foxton. This was called forth by the preparation for the two Alissions held at the end of last year—the Healing Mission, conducted by Mr .T. AT. Hickson, had stimulated thought and had helped to a fuller realisation of the presence of the living Christ in His Church. The Evangelistic Alission, conducted by Afr \V\ .J. Alains was conspicuously successful. Great interest was aroused and much blessing attended the preaching of the AVord. In the work of these Missions, all denominations joined, and a manifestation of the essential unit! of the Church of Christ was made which it is hoped will never lie forgotten. The results of the Missions abide in the united Intercession services held weekly and in the prayer circles and fortnigh'! lv meetings for prayer and fellowship in connection especially with the Alission of Healing. During the year 41 members were added to the Communion roll on profession of faith and three by transfer. The minister has had heavy calls made upon his mental and physical energies by the number of.meetings held in preparation and continuation of die missions. Eighty services have been held in the country and 157 in Foxton exclusive of the Tuesday united service. A great deal of specialised visitation in preparation for the missions was also undertaken by him.
The reports -of Sunday schools showed that this work is being well maintained throughout the parish and the Session thank most heartily the superintendents and teachers for their faithful services. The P.W.AT.U. has two branches in Foxton and in Rangiotu. These report good work done in stimulating interest in missionary work and in raising funds for same.
Ladies’ Social Guild has shown most useful activity in the raising of funds for the Church. Some £123 was raised. The Tennis Club, which was opened early this year, reports a successful season’s play. A second court has been laid down and both courts will be opened as soon as ready. A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to Air Roore Rangiheuea for his generosity in having the second court ploughed and sowed. The Management Committee report a record year in finance. Some .£“537 has been raised for all purposes, £OS of which has been raised at liangiotu for the building of a vestry, which work is now completed. Fifty pounds came from the Trustees of the W. Bock estate, and the Trustees were thanked for their bequest.
It was reported that the proposed sub-division of the parish whereby the country district would become a Home Mission station, was still undecided. The decision will be given ut the meeting of Presbytery next month.
The following were elected a committee of Management:—Messrs .1 jimcs Ross, 11. Downes, R. McMurrny, 11. Ilornblow, McClaren, Barron, Haydock, Satherley and R. Parke*. ’
On the motion of Mr R. McMurray it. was put on record the blessing received through the pastor’s ministrations. The help given by him to those who were in trouble and the Church’s high appreciation of the self-sacrifice and earnest services both of the minister and his wife. At the close of the meeting a social hour was spent and supper provided by the ladies of the congregation.
