METHODIST CHURCH.

IfOAIE MISSION RALLY.

There was a good attendance at the local Methodist Church on Thursday evening, on the occasion of the visit of the Rev. A. J. Seamor, accompanied by a talented party of Alaori singers. The object of the meeting was to arouse'interest and support for Home and Alaori missions. The Mayor (Air John Chrystall) presided and welcomed ’ the visitors. The meeting opened with prayer by the Rev. Te Tuhi, followed by a Psalm in Alaori, the members chanting the alternate verses. The Rev. A[r Seamer spoke interestingly of missionary work among the Maoris from the early days. Duets, poi action songs and hymn singing kept the audience keenly interested. An incident, which had its humorous side, was a representation of a Alaori greeting. The call of welcome was heard as members of the party made their appearance. Then followed the speech of welcome, response and the- - hoiigi in which' the damsels pressed noses with a blushing Aiayor and demure parson —and they enjoyed it as did the audience. The Rev. Te Tuhi made an eloquent appeal for the rights and privileges of the Alaori race in accordance with the Treaty of Waitaugi. At the contusion of the meeting votes of thanks were accorded the party on the motion of the Aiayor and the Rev. S. I’erymnn and carried with acclamation. Acknowledgment in Alaori was made by one of the female visitors, which was interpreted |>y the Rev. Mr Seamer. The Doxology followed by the Benediction concluded the meeting.
