SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.

Mr Davidson, acting headmaster of the local State school, who has

accepted a position under the Canterbury Education Board, and will shortly take his departure for Christchurch, was entertained at a social and made the recipient of a token of esteem hv the Presbyterian congregation in the schoolroom lost evening. Among those present were members of' the school staff and rcpresMitafives of other churches. The Rev. F. McDonald presided and at a suitable juncture expressed regret at Mr Davidson’s departure and pleasure that his removal meant well-deserved promotion in ' the teaching profession. lie referred to Ah Davidson’s activities in the church ns leader of the Bible Class and founder of the tennis club. On behalf of the congregation lie presented Air Davidson with a silvermounted and suitably engraved walking stick. Ah' Davidson suitably acknowledged tho kindly feelings of the congregation as expressed by Air McDonald and the token of esteem. He said he felt it to be his duty to assist in giving the children a moral and religions training and flic work had been a pleasure to him. He dealt with the subject of character training as essential to a higher manhood and womanhood. He. would carry away very pleasant recollections of his stay in Foxton. During the evening some original and amusing competitions and games were indulged in, interspersed with vocal and instrumental items. Those who contributed in this connection were Aliss Tda Speirs, Alesdames f'oild, Kendall, Downes and Mr A. Reid. At the conclusion the ladies provided a very tasty supper.
