REDUCTION IN TOBACCO DUTIES.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER

The following statement has been issued bv the Hon. \V. Dnwnie Stewart. Minister of Customs. “As some uncertainty exists in the t-Or baceo trade as to the possibility of a reduction in tobacco duties, it has been arranged that in the event of any reduction being submitted and agreed to by the House during the present session, Ufioli reduction will not come into operation without, say three months’ notice being given. The object of this intimation is to enable sales and purchases to continue in tiie ordinary way of trade and so that the alteration, if any, may he made with as little inconvenience as possible.”
