ALLEGED HOUSEBREAKING AND THEFT.
ACCUSED REMANDED TO PALMERSTON X. On Thursday night Constables Owen and Ryan arrested a Maori named Leslie George White, on a charge of breaking and entering the dwelling of Vida McCartney, in ITall Street, and stealing therefrom n ring and 10/- in.money. At the police court yesterday morning, before Mr.l. K. lTornblow. J.P. I lie accused, a well-dressed Maori, appeared in answer to the elyirgc when the police made an application for a remand to Palmerston North. 'flic accused asked for hail and (lie police said if granted it should lie for a substantial amount. In reply to the Bench the accused said lie came to this district from Whangerei, but was known at Tokmnaru, where tie had been working. Bail was refused and the accused was remanded to appear at Palmerston X. on Tuesday next.
The accused, when arrested, had among other things, a large collection of keys, including a skeleton key.
