WHY A FARMERS’ PARTY?
A MINISTERIAL VIEW. A reference to the threatened new Farmers’ Party was made in the House last night by the Hon. C. <L Parr, who said that no Parliament in the world contained such a preponderance of farmers. Out of a House of 80, thirty-one were farmers or retired farmers, and the proportion in Cabinet was six out of eleven. “In view of these tigurcs, said Mr Parr, “it seems strange that a small misguided section should want to form another party. We have three parties in the House now, and there would be greater trouble if we hud four. He had seen what occurred in New South Wales with the ruling party dependent on another party. He did not want to see it here.
