SATURDAY’S FOOTBALL

RESULTS. Senior Results. Otaki 3, Wanderers 0. Shannon 17, Foxton 3. , Weraroa 25, Rovers 3. -TUNIORS. ; Awahou 12, Koputaroa 4. Foxton 44 , Miranui 0. i THIRDS. Shannon 19, Koputaroa 0. Weraroa 17, Foxton 14. SHANNON 17 v. FOXTON 3. This fixture was played on the Shannon Recreation Ground on Saturday and proved rather disappointing from a spectators’ point of view, says the “Chronicle,” inasmuch as that up to within teu minutes of the call of time, Shannon appeared to have it ail their own way, especially so in the first half, when they piled up 14 points to their opponents nil. Shannon’s back and forward divisions on the day’s play proved far superior to the visitors the hacks handling the ball in fine style. Williams at five-eighths showed up as a valuable acquisition to the team, his heady work and splendid handling of the ball being a feature of the game while J. Kiriona at wing three-quarter also played a sound game. The forwards, without exception, worked hard. Although up against it, Foxton at no time showed signs of turning it in, and towards the end of the game were going very strong. At the call of time they had the Reds defending their line, having a few minutes before, from one of these attacks, secured (heir only score of the game. After an exchange of kicks Shannon carried play to -Foxton’s 25 where from a scramble Tohi got possession, hut, kicking a bit hard, Foxton forced. Play was returned to centre where Tolu .again secured and cutting across the field sent a long pass to Kiriona, who put a good run down field; kicking light-, ]y mill following up, lie drew first blood. Sands failed to increase the

score. Shannon again attacked, the forwards carrying play to FoxI.ai's line. Soon after from midlicld a line passing rush, in which Williams, Hemiugsen and Bartholomew took part, saw the latter miss scoring by a.narrow margin. Foxton now worked the leather hack to the Reds’ 25 but a line kick by Williams sent play well down the field the Foxton full ba.ck missing badly. Talbot dribbling the ball dangerously near the line before being stopped. The chec& was ouly momentary. ,\ passing rush took play to Foxtoil’s line again where Johansen scored. The kick missed. Almost immediately after Shannon again scored and Moynihan added the major points*- On- resuming Shannon again had, Foxton on the defensive, the former being awarded n free kick for obstruction. The attempt at goal was a failure. Up and down play then ensued until Shannon again added another score to its list. The kick failed. From then on until the end of the game Foxton became aggressive and Shannon took a turn defending their territory, Foxton eventually securing their first try as a result of a splendid passing rush in which Westwood scored. He took the kick himself hut failed. Soon after the whistle went for time with play in the Red 25. Mr Burroughs had control of the game. THIRD GRADE. WERAROA 17, v. FOXTON 14. Winning the toss, Foxton played with the wind, and soon had 14 points to their credit. Weraroa were on the defensive until Warren received the ball and scored a spectacular try, which he failed to convert. Half-time ’sounded shortly afterwards. The second spell opened with Weraroa on the attack. Give and take play followed until 15 minutes to go, when Weraroa concerted play among the forwards allowed Sythes te score, in quick succession Weraroa added 11 points, tries being scored by Mackenzie, Stevens (who also converted his try) and Cole. A close even game ended with Weraroa winners by 17 to 14.
