SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
ORDINARY MEETING
The ordinary meeting of the local school committee was held last night, There were present: Messrs Homblow (chairman), Rangiliouea (secretary), Geo. Coley, Cowley, Jno. Ross, E. Parkin, A. N. Smith and the acting-headmaster, Mr Davidson. Apologies for absence wore received from Messrs Perrean and Stevenson.
The chairman in extending a welcome to Mc-mrs Parkin and Smith, referred to ihe service-, rendered to the committee by Messrs Pearson and Dimmer, whose position- had been filled by the new members. Messrs Smith and Parkin suitably

A petition, signed by the rapti-sUc number of parents of local children entitled to receive -secondary education ami praying for the establishment of a District High School for Foxton. was received and it was decided to unanimously endorse the petition and forward -ame on to the Education Board. LATE HEADMASTER.
The Chairman reported that the Board had appointed Mr McR. Davidson (first-assistant) as actingheadmaster pending a permanent appointment and Miss McLeod Jas relieving teacher. [„ was resolved to send a letter .. Mr Banks Gate headmaster) ex'ending the ( oumittee's best wishes for hi- future success and thanking him for hi- co-operation with the Committee during his term as headmaster. The Chairman -aid that since Mr Davidson had taken np the duties ..f headmaster, he had met with a painful accident to his back and •••Ultrary to medical advice had carried on. Such devotion to duty in the circumstances was highly commendable. The Chairman also mentioned that two members of the staff had mid :• narrow escape from drowning during the holidays and one of them was still suffering from the •xperienee a ini’ had been medically advised to. rest but had also “carried on.”
Mr Davidson thanked the Committee for kindly references and said he mould do his best to maintain the efficiency of the school. REPAIRS. The headmaster reported that repairs were needed to desks and chairs and that there were certain leaks in the roof. —Decided-to refer these matters to the Board. BOCK MEMORIAL PRIZES. The 'Public Trustee notified the Committee that, acting under' instructions from the beneficiaries in the estate of the late Walter Bock, it had been decided to invest £IOO the interest from which was to provide two dux prizes annually for boy ami girl to be called the ‘Waller Bock Memorial Prizes.” —Decided to communicate with the beneficiaries and Public Trustee expressing the Committee’s appreciation of the gift and conditions. Messrs Coley, Parkin and Ross were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts were passed for payment and other minor matters dealt with. ■
