The lad was on a shooting expedition with a boy of’ seven, and when in the vicinity of Mi- Wingate’s farm the gun he was carrying was accidentally discharged, the bullet entering the youth’s thigh. Though the bone was not broken, the projectile severed an artery, and the youth was discovered in a state oi' collapse owing to loss of blood.
lie was taken to the Palmerston N. hospital where his leg was amputated. After the operation his condition was so low that his brother and sister were summoned for the purpose of effecting a transfusion of blood in an endeavour to save the lad’s life. This was of no avail however, and the injured boy died early yesterday morning. An inquest was held yesterday when the verdict returned was that the deceased died as a result of a gunshot wound received at Pohanginu Valley on Monday last.
