SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held last night and was presided over by Mr J. K. ITornblow (chairman). There were present: —Messrs Coley, S. E. Cowley, Jno. Ross, Stevenson, Perreau and R. Rangiheauea (secretary).

CORRESPONDENCE

was read and dealt with as follows: From the Foxton United Sports Association asking tin- Committee to grant the children a holiday on Wednesday. April 9th.. in order that the children may partieipate in the combined sports meeting.—Application granted. From the Foxton Borough Council, forwarding the following resolution for an expression of opinion: “That the Council invites the cooperation of the Foxton School Committee in securing the necessary information for the Minister of Education lo support the establishment of a district High School in the borough.”—Deferred. «■ From the Shakespeare Club, soliciting permission to use the teachers’ office for the purpose of meeting between the hours of 7.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. every Thursday evening with the use of gas lighting gnd asking for forms. —Decided that while .-ympathetic the Committee regretted inability to vrnnt the use of the school for the purpose. Fl-om the Education Board advising that the structural defects wo-ujd-be attended to and that the concrete trough for the horse paddock is a matter for the Committee. —The procuring of' a horse trough was left in the hands of Messrs O. Cpleyland Jno. Ross. From the Longbum School Committee forwarding resolution for consideration and support: this Committee considers the time has arisen when efficient steps should be taken to prevent the continual changing of school books in the schools throughout the Dominion and suggests that all school books hould be standardised for a period not less than five years thereby lessening the burdens imposed on parents who haye to continually buy new books and also would assist committees'in adopting a scheme to bring about the issue of free books in their schools.” —After discussion the resolution was endorsed. From Mr J. Banks (headmaster) tendering his resignation as headmaster of the school to take, effect on May Ist, 1924. —Accepted.
