BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Foxton Branch of the above, was held in All Saints’ Schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon. The president (Mrs Frank Robinson) presided over a good attendance and introduced Airs Florence Porter (organising secretary) who stated that the Bible Society was one of the greatest missionary societies in the world with headquarters in London, under an interdenominational committee of control, with over ten thousand auxiliaries and brandies throughout the world. The aim of the society is to bring the Bible without note or comment, within the reach of all people in all language-. It is engaged in the work of translating, printing, publishing and circulating God’s word in all parts of the world. It supplies Sunday schools, Bible Classes, missions. orphanages, prisons, hospitals, etc. in the Homeland and missionary societies in foreign lands, all irrespective of denomnation with Scriptures at less than cost, in 560 languages. From the Bible House, -11 Balia nee St., 'Wellington, 8,764 eopies of Scriptures in 15 languages were sent out all over New Zealand. Interest was taken in the visit of tin* Rev. Dr. Wilson, next month as he is expected to arrive here from England on April 22nd., and on the 23rd a public meeting will he held in the Town Hall, Wellington. also on the 2nd Alav at 3 p.m. in the concert chamber. Wellington the annual meeting will be. held and the speaker hoped that Foxton would he represented at that meeting. It was decided that the local animal effort to augment the society’s funds he made as soon as possible. - AL-s Frank Robinson was re-elec-ted president for the ensuing year, and Mesdames Walton and AfeDonald vice-presidents. Aliss Robinson was elected secretary.
A meeting of collectors will be held shortly and the various streets allotted. It is hoped that the residents of Foxton who give so well, will not fail in this call, but make the work of the collectors as pleasant and easy as possible. Captain Lillingston spoke heartily in support of the work done by the society and gave the closing prayer. At the conclusion of the meeting a very tasty afternoon tea was dispensed by the committee.
