THE EVOLUTION THEORY
New York, March 17. A telegram from Springfield Kentucky, says this town is experiencing troublous times as the result of the evolution theory. Friendships of a life-time have been rent asunder, deposits withdrawn from one hank and placed in another, and boycotts declared against certain merchants while heated discussions approaching dangerously near to listic encounters occurr daily, because a Darwinian, or as it is popularly put, "man decended from monkey” theory is being taught at the local school. Kentucky has a law which forbids the teaching of human evolution in those institutions which receive State support. -Members of Sprinklield churches alleged that the superintendent of the high school was disobeying the law and the pro-Darwinians have come to his rescue, with turbulent results. Prominent speakers are being brought in by both sides, and the enmity is reaching a surprising degree. _. i
