CITIZENS SILVER BAND.

The band lias received a communication from the Saudon Sports Club intimating that tbe Club has decided to put on a dance on the night of the sports in aid of the band’s funds as an appreciation of the band’s services on lbe day of tbe sports, Monday next.' The Shannon Sports Club has also intimated their intention of giving a benefit dance in aid of tbe band and a like effort is being made at Rongotea on tlie evening of the 26th inst. The Band committee desires to publicly express appreciation of such offers of assistance and to point out that the band, as a local institution, not only affords pleasure to the local public but attracts outside capital to tbe town. A local citizen forwarded a cheque for a guinea to tbe band on Saturday which brought tbe total of the shop day effort to £36 10/-. BAND SHOD DAY.

The shop-day held cii Saturday in aid of the band was in charge of Mesdames Pearson, Proctor, Head, and Heasinau, together with a bund of willing helpers. During the evening the Silver Band played several selections in front of the shop, which were much appreciated by tbe listeners. The following are tbe results of the various competitions: Brush and comb, Mr W. A. Vickers, No. 117; chocolates, Miss Z. Martin, No. 50; dinner, Mr Roore, No. 99; pair of boots, Mr R. J. Kennett, No. 119; coal, All’s Heasman, 2331b5.; pair of shoes M. .Barker, No. 14 1 ; lamb, Mi’ Pearson, 31$ lbs.; doll, Miss Phillips, No. 79. Thanks are due to Miss Rankin who raised tbe sum of 15/- from tbe sale of bowers supplied by Mrs Hussey.
