MANGAHAO SCHEME.
DATE OF COMPLETION.
Despite the fact that heavy floods occurred at Mangahao last week, I lie Miuister of Public Works (the Hon. J. 6. Coates) is confident that the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme will be completed very close to the end of June.
The "Minister stated yesterday that excellent work had been accomplished during the recent prolonged dry spell, which had materially assisted in putting the project well forward. The fullest advantage had been taken of the dry weather to make rapid progress and he was pleased at what, had been accomplished.
Asked whether the Hoods of last week would cause much delay in the completion of the scheme, the Minister said that, at the moment, it was very hard to say, but personally, he did not think that things would be at all far behind at the end of June. Everything depended or. whether material was on hand to lie available ready to meet the situation caused by the Hoods, but if there was any delay he did not think it would be very great because such good work had been done during the recent dry weather.
