LECTURE ON THE ROMAN EMPIRE.
The rise and fall of the Roman Empire was the subject of an address delivered on Thursdav evening by Mr W. J. Olapham in ttie marquee tent, in Park Street. Although of the four Gentile empires the Roman was the remotest, from ttie prophet Daniel, yet it is the one described the most minutely by him. Its diverseness from all other world empires, its marvellous strength; its terrible grip oil the nations, its diversion into two parts, and later into fragments, which still remain, were all carefully detailed by the prophet under divine inspiration. According to the speaker, the weak monarchies of Europe side by side with republics, represent the feet of the Great Tmnge, part of i lay and part of iron, upon which the predicted Stone cut out without hands is to fall. This Stone is the Lord Jesus Christ, who at His coming. will demolish Gentile rule and set up His Milleniul Kingdom. Next- week Mr Clapham intends to speak on fulfilled prophecy in connection with Tyre, Sidon, Nineveh. Egypt and the surrounding nations. On Sunday evening the subject will be°“A Pharisee's Perplexity'."
