HELEN RUFUS WTNS CUP AT WAIRARAPA MEETING.

The Wairarapa Racing Club’s Jubilee meeting opened at Masterton on January* Ist. The attendance was good and the track very fast. The tote registered £23,392, against 021,990 last. year. The results are as follows: —

Trial Hack-Heathcote 1, Glimpse 2, Bonlita 3. Won by* a head, a length between second and third. Time lmin. 1 1-5 sec.

Hack Welter:—Zero Hour 1, Tinohnri 2, Scmplicc 3. Won by half a length each way. Time lmin. 28 2-5 sec.

Flying:—Chimera 1, Lady Fingers 2, Jackaroo 3. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Time lmin. Msec.

Clip:—Helen Rufus 1, Merry Day 2, Bon'netter 3. Won by two and nhalf lengths. Time 2min. 5 1-5 secs. The time was a track record hut the rider weighed in four pounds under.

At the conclusion of the race the Cnp donated by Mr W. E. Bidwell was handed over by Sir Walter Buchanan to Mr W. Kirkland, of Foxton, who accepted the trophy on behalf of Mr F. J. Carmont, who was not present to see his marc win. Sir Walter made a happy* speech. in which reference was made to the wide popularity* enjoyed by the Wairnrnpn Racing Club. Air W. E. Bidwell handed over the gold-moun-ted whip to D. Butler, and congratulated the jockey on his excellent riding. Sir Waller and Mr Bidwell’s remarks were greetpd with cheers.
