POWER BOARD AND GAS WORKS

CONFERENCE TO BE ARRANGED. At last night's Borough Council meeting, the gas committee’s report recommending that a conference he convened between the Council and the IJorowhenua Electric Bower Board to discuss matter’s in connection with the local gas works was read. The Mayor said that the Council had no intention of closing down the gas works at any early date—the earliest in fact could not be for another three years—but the gas works were not a pitying proposition and with the coming competition of electricity the position would bo worse than ever. A conference with the Power Board may prove productive of some good result. It was decided that a conference he convened and that the Mayor and Crs. Bryant and Smith be the Council’s representatives at such conference.
