ELECTRIC POWER FOR PUMPING.

ACCEPTED BY THE COUNCIL. At last night’s Council meeting the gas works committee recommended that the Council accept the offer of the Horowhenua Power Board to supply power for pumping the borough water at a cost of £l5O per -annum, and instal a motor at the works when the power is available. The Mayor said this was a very reasonable offer and worked out at S/3 per day for pumping. The pumping, of course, would be done at night, at off peak load hours, from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Cr. Bryant objected to such an offer and said that the co3t was too high. The Mayor pointed out that the cost would be only 2d per 1,000 gallons, or Id per unit, one-third the present eost. It would be very foolish to turn down such an offer. The present plant would be used as a stand-by. . Crs. Boss and Smith spoke m P support and pointed out the saving 'to be effected. ~ . Cr. Bryant still maintained that the cost was too high. It was decided to accept this offer for a period of seven years, provided the Board agreed to seme.
