CANADIAN WHEAT.

A RECORD REASON. Canada has just experienced a record season for wheat growing—one of her chief industries —and elaborate facilities are being provided for the disposal of the enormous crops. On his return from a seven months' visit to England, America and various parts of Europe, Mr M. A. Eliott, of Palmerston NorHi, informed an interviewer that Canada is not alone in having a record wheat crop, for other'countries which support this industry also record a stupendous yield. As a. result Rusfor I lie first time since 1014 entered into a contract to supply large quantities to England. “The United States has an exportable surplus of 200 million bushels, and Canada a. surplus of 400 million bushels,” continued Mr Eliott. “The price has in consequence, dropped and the Canadian farmer receives only 70 cents per bushel net, which be claims to be inadequate to render his crop profitable. “Alberta is now the chief wheatproducing province there and to give some idea of the vast quantities handled throughout Canada, 2,500 ears pass through Winnipeg every day carrying the wheat east. Travelling west as we were, we me.t a train of an average length of 28 wheat, laden ears every 8 minutes, going east. “The trains, lake steamers and elevators in Canada are taxed to their utmost to provide transport facilities, for the vast crops of wheat. I have seen elevators capable of holding over a million bushels of wheat erected at Vancouver. A large portion of the wheat from Alberta is now carried westward over the Rockies into Vancouver and then shipped via the Panama Canal to the east coast of America or Europe.
