SWIMMING BATHE AND BEAUTIFYIG.
AT ihe quarterly meeting of Ihe local Beautifying Society held prior to the public meeting to discuss public swimming baths, those present refused to he drawn into an expression of opinion on the baths site question, but decided to inform the Council that the Society was prepared to continue its operations on the park provided Mr Black’s original scheme was adopted. Members of the Beautifying Society attended the public meeting in the capacity of ratepayers and recorded their vote as such on n definite proposal. At last night's Council meeting the Mayor stated that the Beautifying Society had stated that they could not have a swimming baths and beautifying on Easton Park. This statement is without foundation in fact and its utterance can only be attributed to a desire by the Mayor to foment a spirit of opposition to the baths silo. 'I lie Mayor s attitude is transparently childish and it is time he dropped his personal resentment because a majority refuse to act on his suggestions.
