MOUTOA NOTES.

MOUTOA TENNIS CLUB. (Own Correspondent). The annual general meeting of the Moutoa Tennis Club was held in tlie school room on Wednesday, October 3rd. Tn the absence of the President, AL W. 11. Smith, AL W. Bowe presided. Commenting on the small attendance in bis opening remarks, AL Bowe said it would be a sad fact if the club failed for the want of enthusiasm among its members. The club could only succeed financially by its membership list being kept strong and Afr Bowe deplored tlie loss of several members who had this year left the district. He hoped, however, that others would be forthcoming and thought that with some encouragement from tlie committee, other members would soon show up. Organisation of the committee was what was wanted. Mr Bowe continued, and although the standard of individual play had increased during the year, lie was sorry that matches with outside clubs had not been arranged, which in itself, would promote a keener spirit and interest in the game for every member naturally wanted to be in the first team to represent Afoutoa. He hoped, however, for better things this year. Thb balance-sheet, showing a credit of £9 9/9 was then read and adopted. At the request of Afr Bowe, the chairman of the school Committee (AL V. Jewell) briefly outlined (lie policy of .■ the school committee ro renovating and improving the court. Tlie proposal was unanimously ngrood to and a sub-oommitLe was appointed to meet tlie school committee to estimate the enst of improvements. A proposal by AL 8. Barber that the Tennis Club donate two small trophies to the school children ( encourage their play, was carried. Air Thompson proposed that the Club go into the cost of putting down a grass court but on the motion of the chairman the matter was held over with a recommendation that the Hall Committee be asked to reserve a suitable ground.
