THE MANGAHAO DAM.

THREE SHIFTS ENGAGED. SPEEDING UP THE WORK. Good headway is now being made with the work of forming the dam pi Mangnhao. The men are working three shifts a day, and so as no time will he lost during the summer months work will he carried on over each week end. The work of concreting ihe portion of the dam on ihe opposite side of the river is proceeding rapidly. On Tuesday a start was made to pump out the liver channel, the water from which i« diverted through the by-pass. When the water has been pumped ( lit an immediate start will be made with the work of excavating the bed. This is the most critical part of the enterprise, as everything depends on weather conditions, and to enable this work to he completed to time it is most essential no time should he lost daring the fine weather.
