FLOODS IN THE NORTH.

BAY OF PLENTY TRAFFIC blocked. Whakatane, This Day. During the -1.8 hours to 7 o’clock this morning 3.85 inches of rain fell, resulting in the rivers in many places overflowing their banks and submerging low-lying country. The roads suffered considerable damage and it is doubtful whether traffic can be re-established with outside places to-day. Slips also occurred and a bridge was washed away in the Waimana Gorge. Similar conditions prevail on Hie Whakatane and Rotorua road. The Rangitaiki river overflowed at Thornton, and the water across the.road is too deep for motor traffic to pass.
