GIRL ATTEMPTS TO TAKE HER LIFE.
LED AWAY BY BAD COMPANIONS. Dunedin, August 27. The distressing ease of a girl, 19 years of age, who attempted to commit suicide by taking poison, was before the Police Court to-day. The police stated that accused lost her father fourteen months ago, and since been beyond control, staying out until the early hours of the morning, and associating with girls and youths of indifferent character. A Salvation Army officer stated that the girl attempted suicide, realising that her conduct was breaking her mother’s heart. She had tried to get away from the fast set, but they kept sending cars and calling for her.
The Magistrate convicted the girl, and ordered her to come up for sentence if required, on condition that she allowed Ensign Coombs to guide her destinies.
