FAREWELL TO MRS. MASSEY.
PREMIER’S AUCKLAND VISIT. A somewhat pathetic interest will attach to the hasty private visit which the Prime Minister will pay (o Auckland during the coming week-end. It will- be for the purpose of saying “good-bye” to his wife (says the Herald). At the complimentary dinner to the Prime Minister on Saturday night, several of the speakers expressed regret that the ill health of Mrs Massey would prevent her accompanying him on his coming trip to the Old Country. Mr Massey thanked the speakers very heartily for their kind references to Mrs Massey, and for their hopes for her speedy recovery, which he appreciated very much. Unfortunately, he said, she was not in very good health —far from it —but he was glad to say that during the last 10 days there had been a considerable improvement in her condition. Her medical advisers stated that with fine weather, which must be forthcoming soon, the improvement should be more rapid.
